- Summary
The victim was arrested in late 2019 in Beheira Governorate. He was investigated by the Public Prosecution on charges of joining a banned group and promoting its activities. He was transferred to Al-Abadiya Prison in the city of Damanhour, and the appeals he submitted against the decisions to imprison him for 15 days were rejected.
On January 27, 2020, while he was leaving for a visit to Al-Abadiya prison, he suffered a sudden collapse, and some prisoners tried to save him, rescue him, and take him to the prison hospital. Upon arrival, the necessary rescue measures were not taken, including recovery and shocks, and he died immediately of a heart attack.
The victim was previously arrested several times in 2014 and 2016 due to his human rights activism and his assistance to the families of detainees in defending their loved ones.
