The victim was arrested on August 30, 2023 from an ambush in Cairo due to the issuance of a prison sentence in absentia against him in Case No. 37883 of 2017, Al-Marg Police Department. He was forcibly disappeared for approximately 6 days until he was investigated before the East Cairo Public Prosecution Office and signed a request to repeat the procedures in the absentia ruling. The victim had been detained in pretrial detention in this case for more than two years, before he was released in March 2016 after appeals from his family and human rights activists to the president of the country.
