She was arrested from her home on October 17, 2017 and forcibly disappeared. She was accused of joining a group established contrary to the provisions of the law (the Muslim Brotherhood) and participating in behavior that harms the country, in Case No. 955 of 2017. Somaya suffers from poor and inhumane conditions of detention. She is prohibited from visiting without giving any reason since her arrest, and she is currently in the New 10th of Ramadan Prison for women, while she is on trial.

Update April 7, 2026: The victim was sentenced to 10 years of hard labor and placed under surveillance for 5 years.
