The victim was arrested in February 2020, after security forces arrested him from the funeral of Islamic thinker Dr. Mohamed Amara, and took him to an unknown location.
He appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, where he was subsequently charged with joining a banned group and promoting its activities, and his arbitrary pretrial detention exceeded five years, in violation of Egyptian procedural law.
On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the victim died in his cell in Badr Prison, at the age of 70, after being detained for nearly five years; as a result of medical negligence and deprivation of health care and treatment.
