The victim, a poet, was arrested on March 3, 2018, from Cairo Airport, based on a complaint filed against him accusing him of insulting the President of the Republic. In July 2018, the Military Court sentenced him to three years in prison with hard labor and a fine of 10,000 pounds, because of a book of poetry he wrote that the court considered. The Military Prosecutor is an insult to the military establishment and its leaders, and on July 31, 2021, he ended his imprisonment in the ruling issued against him in Case No. 4 of 2018 misdemeanor of the Military Public Prosecutor, but he remained detained in Kafr Shukr Police Station from August 5, 2021 to the 16th of the same month, then he was transferred to The National Security headquarters in Benha until he appeared on September 5, 2021, accused in Case No. 2000 of 2021 on charges of joining a terrorist group, publishing and broadcasting false news that would harm public security.Al-Buhairi entered a partial hunger strike, since March 5, 2023, inside his prison cell in Badr Prison 1, coinciding with the start of his sixth year in prison, due to the poor conditions in prison and his pretrial detention for long periods, and he also decided to enter into a total hunger and drink strike starting from 1 July 2023 to demand his release, after 5 years of detention. He also complained that pens and paper are not allowed inside his prison cell, in addition to the 24-hour cell lighting and the short visitation period, which is only 20 minutes per month.
