Zyad had previously been held in pretrial detention for 31 months pending cases No. 1739 of 2018, State Security, and 855 of 2020, State Security. He remained in pretrial detention from March 2019 until his release in August 2021. He was arrested again in Alexandria Governorate on November 11 at 8:00 pm on Friday. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for several days and appeared in front of the Supreme State Security Prosecution pending Case No. 2094 of 2022 on charges of joining a terrorist group, financing terrorism and spreading false news.
