The victim is the son of Dr. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, a former presidential candidate, who is currently detained on politically charged charges.
The victim was arrested on April 16, 2025, while completing the procedures for renewing his car license at the Katameya Traffic Department. He had been sentenced in absentia to ten years in prison in the same case in which his father was sentenced.
According to lawyer Khaled Ali, he was taken to the New Cairo District Prosecution on April 17, 2025, to sign a request to retry the proceedings. A new trial date was set for him.
Update March 16, 2026: The court decided to suspend the proceedings in the case of Ahmed Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh pending a ruling on the appeal, and ordered his release.
