The victim was arrested on July 4, 2017, outside his workplace at the Health Administration in Quesna. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for over 100 days, during which he was tortured. He later appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Cairo in connection with Case No. 760 of 2017. In June 2018, he was added to the terrorism watch list.

On August 15, 2018, a decision was issued for his release, subject to precautionary measures; however, he has yet to be set free, as he has been repeatedly implicated in new, separate cases.
