- Summary
The victim, a lawyer and campaign manager for former presidential candidate Ahmed Tantawi, was arrested after the Matareya Misdemeanor Court of Appeal upheld the Matareya Misdemeanor Court’s ruling of one year in prison with hard labor.
This came in Case No. 2049 of 2024, registered as Supreme State Security No. 2255 of 2023, known in the media as the “Popular Agencies” case.
The victim was subjected to various forms of abuse, as the Tenth of Ramadan Prison refused to grant him the right to appeal the ruling within 60 days, and thus he missed the last opportunity to litigate and appeal the ruling issued against him.
Update: May 25, 2026. The victim was arrested on May 25, 2026, and interrogated in connection with Case No. 4502 of 2026 (Supreme State Security Registry); he remains in detention pending the case.
