He was arrested from his home on 26-12-2013 and forcibly disappeared for 4 days until he appeared in a case in which he was accused of belonging to a terrorist group. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in October 2017 and the appeal was rejected. He suffers from poor conditions of detention and medical neglect. It is reported that he was subjected to solitary confinement and beatings during his imprisonment in Kilo 10 and a half prison in 2014. He is serving his sentence in Liman Prison in Minya.
