In September 2019 when many demonstrations erupted in the Egyptian streets, Alaa was arbitrarily rearrested from the Police Station, while serving his police probation and was later charged under Case No. 1356/ 2019 of belonging to terrorist group, misuse of social media platforms, and publishing false news. Alaa is currently detained at Wadi Al-Natrun prison and went on water strike from November 6 until November 14, 2022, but he is still on hunger strike. Sentenced to 5 years in prison in December 2021. Alaa is also accused in 3 other cases, which are Case No. 1 of 2014, downtown Cairo, which is known in the media as insulting the judiciary, and Case No. 1781 of 2019, which resulted in him being added on the terrorist lists, and the third case is the events of the Shura Council.
