He was arrested from home on October 11, 2016, along with his son, who was a minor at the time. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for a period of time in which he suffered physical and psychological torture, and they were brought in front of the Fifth Settlement Prosecution on Case No. 216 of 2020 New Cairo College on charges of possession of weapons and ammunition and attempting to join a terrorist group abroad. Him and his son were sentenced to 3 years in prison on September 14, 2020. He is in Tora prison to serve his sentence.
