Blogger and translator Marwa Arafa was arrested on April 20, 2020, after her house was raided by the National Security Forces, and she was taken to an unknown place, until she appeared at the State Security Prosecution several weeks later.

Since her appearance, she has been charged in connection with Case No. 570 of 2020, the security of a higher state, on charges of broadcasting, publishing and disseminating false news and data, and helping a terrorist group in achieving its goals. In the session of July 10, 2023, the Cairo Criminal Court decided to renew her pretrial detention for another 45 days pending investigations, despite the fact that more than three years have passed since her pretrial detention, which is illegal according to the law.
