The victim was arrested on September 21, 2019, and investigated in a case by the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Cairo, where he was accused of joining a banned group and promoting its activities.

On September 14, 2020, the Cairo Criminal Court, sitting in a consultative chamber, decided to release the victim on precautionary measures, and on November 6, 2020, the Cairo Criminal Court, sitting in a consultative chamber, decided to lift the precautionary measures against him.
