The victim was arrested on December 8, 2016, from his home in the city of Zagazig in Sharkia Governorate. He was placed in the high-security Scorpion Prison, before it was closed and all convicts were transferred to other prisons. He was prohibited from visiting, and his family has not been able to visit him except once since his arrest. In late 2017.
