The victim works as a journalist. He was arrested on December 7, 2017 while participating in a protest in front of the Journalists Syndicate in support of the rights of the Palestinian people on the grounds of demonstrating without obtaining a permit.

The victim was hidden for 48 hours, then he was presented to the Supreme State Security Prosecution. On December 10, 2017, the prosecution decided to detain him for 15 days pending Case No. 977 of 2017.

The victim was subjected to many violations during his imprisonment, most notably interrogation without the presence of his lawyer, and stubbornness in bringing his personal belongings into his detention facility in Tora Prison. His health condition also deteriorated significantly during the period of imprisonment.

On April 15, 2019, the Giza Criminal Court decided to release the victim with precautionary measures that were later cancelled. At the same time, his health condition worsened until he died on October 17, 2023 after a struggle with illness.
