He was arrested on October 16, 2019, from his house in Cairo and forcibly disappeared. After that, he appeared before the prosecution, which charged him of participating in a terrorist group with knowledge of its objectives, publishing and broadcasting false news and data, and misusing social media, under case No. 488 of 2019. Since then, his pretrial detention is renewed. Recently, he was charged in New Case No. 588 of 2020 with the same charges. He obtained a presidential pardon on 24-04-2022 and it was implemented on 16-07-2022.
