Mr. Adel was arrested on 18 June 2018, while he was serving his daily probation at Aga Police Station. On the same day, Mr. Adel was brought before the Mansoura public prosecution under Case No. 5606/2018 over publishing false news from which he was released on a 10,000-pound bail. On 5 July 2018, he was brought again before the prosecution, which accused him under a second Case No. 4118/2018 over identical charges of publishing fake news. On 21 December 2020, after exceeding the legal limit of two years in pre-trial detention, Mr. Adel was brought before the State Security Prosecution, accused under a new Case No. 467/2020 with charges of joining a terrorist group and providing this group with information from inside prison.Since his arrest, he has been held in solitary confinement.
